World Wide Technology (WWT), a prominent global partner of VMware, has voiced disappointment over Broadcom’s recent decision to terminate VMware’s partner program and take certain accounts directly. This development comes after Broadcom successfully concluded its acquisition of VMware for $61 billion. WWT, a significant player in the IT industry with a valuation of $17 billion, has been a top partner for VMware on a global scale.
The termination of VMware’s partner program, affecting around 2,000 accounts, has raised concerns among partners like WWT, considering their substantial investments in VMware over the years. The shift in Broadcom’s go-to-market strategy and the introduction of the Broadcom Advantage Partner Program in February 2024 add a layer of uncertainty for partners regarding their continued ability to sell VMware products.
The evolving situation prompts WWT to evaluate its strategic partnership with VMware and explore alternative solutions for customers. WWT CEO Jim Kavanaugh acknowledged the challenges presented by market changes due to acquisitions and emphasized the need for agility in response to evolving partnerships and go-to-market strategies. Despite the disappointment, Kavanaugh expressed optimism about WWT’s continued growth and focus on areas that bring the most value to its clients, even in the face of shifting industry dynamics.
